The right tools are important to keep your puppy’s coat tangle free and healthy. There are 3 must haves: 1. A slicker brush 2. A pin brush 3. A comb For a shorter coat a rubber curry brush is great. It’s also good to have a nail clipper or grinder. Keeping nails short is easier than getting them short after they have grown out. If your puppy is longer coated it will need to be groomed every 4 to 6 weeks to keep it in good shape, so start as early as possible. You can help get your puppy groom ready by playing with their feet and holding them by their chin ( for trimming face and eyes its how a groomer holds them) If you bathe your puppy at home use a shampoo/conditioner made for dogs. Shampoo made for people can irritate their eyes and skin. After bathing you must dry and brush your puppy to avoid matting. When brushing your puppy, make sure you get down to the skin using a pin brush then go through with a comb. Don’t forget under arms, inside of the back legs, the neck, where the collar lays behind the ears and the underside. These are areas often forgotten and matt quickly when left unbrushed. If your puppy does wind up with matting it is much easier to take it down short and yes it will grow back. This is much less stressful for your puppy. *Angel’s carries all grooming tools you need so don’t forget to ask the groomer what you need for proper home care.
